Criminal and Record Suspensions
Criminal Law
Facing a criminal charge can be stressful and confusing. Invictus Legal LLP helps members of the public with certain criminal law matters, including eligible summary offence charges, record suspensions (pardons), clemency applications, and peace bonds.
Charged with a summary offence? If your charge is a summary offence under the Criminal Code of Canada (some can carry up to two years in jail and/or a $2,500 fine), Invictus Legal LLP may be able to represent you in criminal court.
Important: The Law Society of Ontario no longer permits paralegals to represent clients charged with impaired driving.
If you are not sure what you were charged with, bring your release papers or charge sheet—Invictus Legal LLP can review them with you and explain your options in plain language.
Record Suspensions (Pardons)
In some situations, you may be able to ask for clemency (Royal Prerogative of Mercy). This is a request to reduce part of a sentence—such as fines or a driver’s licence suspension—when it is causing severe hardship that could not have been known at the time of sentencing.
Invictus Legal LLP can help you assess whether an application makes sense and prepare the materials for consideration by the Parole Board of Canada.
Peace Bonds
A peace bond is a court order that can help protect you if you reasonably fear that someone may harm you, your family, or your property, or if you are being harassed. Conditions can include no contact and staying away, and a peace bond typically lasts up to one year.
Invictus Legal LLP can help you prepare the application, organize supporting information, and represent you in criminal court if needed.
